One of the south India’s oldest temple towns, Madurai is synonymous with the celebrated Meenakshi Temple. Situated on the banks of river Vaigai, Madurai has a rich cultural heritage passed on from the Tamil sangam era which is more than 2500 years old. Maduari is famous for Jasmine flowers and traditional south Indian food. The city is called as the “Athens of the East” because of its great architecture and meticulous planning.
Thiagarajar College of Engineering (TCE) is one among the several educational, industrial and philanthropic institutions founded by late Sri Karumuttu Thiagarajan chettiar. This 58 year old Government aided autonomous institution is accredited by National Board of accreditation, approved by All India council for Technical Education, and affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. The chairman & correspondent of the college is Mr.Karumuttu T.Kannan.
The college offers eight undergraduate, thirteen postgraduate and Ph.D. Programmes in various Engineering, Science and architecture disciplines. The college has eleven departments, 270 faculty members and four thousand three hundred students. The college has introduced outcome based Curriculum and Bloom’s Taxonomy-based evaluation process. The college is implementing world bank supported Technical Education Quality improvement programme (TEQIP).
Interaction with industries such as Honeywell, Yahoo, Microsoft, Motorola, IBM, Intel, CISCO, Agilent, Cognizant, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, HCL, TVS Motors, NI and TI has led to the establishment of State-of-the-art laboratory facilities and collaborative academic programs. Thiagarajar Advanced Research Centre in the campus houses the TIFAC-CORE in Wireless Technologies and an incubated RF and antennas company Thiagarajar Telekom Solutions Limited.
